Rule Books for Working Gundog Trials

There seems to be some concern that the process outlined in the National Discipline Chairman’s Handbook would see WGAA members voting on changes to our trial rules, this will not happen.

My interpretation of this process is:

  1. That, in keeping with the ethos of SSAA, anyone with any knowledge that they view as useful can have input via their State Representatives.
  2. This, then, does not preclude input from members in States such as Queensland who have been unable to continue with anything other than Retrieving Trials since the government cancelled our Duck and Quail Season in 2005.
  3. We have many ANKC Judges in States that are so challenged and have failed to renew their judging licences, their input should be welcomed.
  4. Any WGAA member can offer suggestions that via their State Representatives are added to the published spread sheet.
  5. The combined state representatives in consultation with the National Discipline Chairman prepares a series of drafts of the reviewing rule book which are updated and progressively published.
  6. At the National Discipline Sub-Committee meeting the final draft is debated and accepted.
  7. The final draft then goes to SSAA for Board approval and publishing.

We are numerically very small in the overall dog world and should make use of any expertise available to us. It is my belief that all members of WGAA wish to see the best outcomes for our organisation and will offer only suggestions that are beneficial.

Please have a look at the excerpt from the National Discipline Chairmans Handbook on the right and feel free to contact me to discuss any issues that you see.

WGAA is operating in most States of Australia providing training assistance and Field Trialing opportunities for handlers and their dogs as a parallel to The Sporting Shooters Association of Australia’s many activities for dedicated competition shooters and hunters.

GUNDOG TRIALING

Gundog Field and Retriever Trialing will give you the opportunity to share with your dog the experience of the companionship and mutual support that only a team that works as one can fully appreciate

(We think the dogs love it even more than we do!)

The Working Gundog Association of Australia has groups that work with all sections of a gundog’s inherited abilities.

There are the specialist fast running Pointers and Setters, that rapidly search stubble paddocks in their quest for elusive game birds.

There are the Hunt, Point and Retrieve Breeds, very popular hunters, that seek all types of game including rabbits, quail, ducks etc.

There are the Spaniels that, working close to their handler, specialise in hunting rabbits in heavy cover.

There are the Retrievers that are specialist water dogs, retrieving articles in and across all types of terrain.

The venues for our events and training days are fantastic, and they give an opportunity for families and their dogs to get out into an environment unavailable to many.

Get a limited view of our activities here, but, to truly appreciate our friendship and welcome, you have to be there.

So have a look at the rule book for your type of interest, on the SSAA National Page (in Downloads), and we would love to meet you.

WGAA Tasmania’s Inaugural Retrieving Trial
Saturday 18th our first WGAA Tasmania Retrieving Trial. We held a Test and Advanced Stake and had 10 entries in Test and 8 in Advance which were really good numbers. A lot of new triallers who did really well with their dogs.
Thank you to all those who helped, competed and attended. Thank you Paul Littlejohn for judging Test stake and Byron Kendall from Victoria who judged advanced stake. Some really great duck hunting runs were put on by Byron that really tested the handlers and dogs. Day 2 we held an intermediate and open stake. Byron Kendall judge both stakes and he didn’t disappoint. Testing the dog and handlers duck hunting abilities.Thank you Mario our club photographer for capturing the event.
Thanks Artik Mansfield for the report.
